Raise the Quality of LAUSD Cafeteria Food

Raise the Quality of LAUSD Cafeteria Food
The Issue
Many LAUSD school cafeterias used to have chefs who would cook actual food in the kitchen for students, but the money for them got cut off for cheaper plastic packaged food. Now students only have access to this microwaved food that hardly seems edible, and no matter how much students complain about the food quality, LAUSD has hardly done anything. Please help us eat higher quality cafeteria food. If the schools aren’t able to provide proper meals for us then it can directly impact our health and future. This is especially prevalent for those who may not have the best home circumstances, and get most of their food from the school!
We also want to make the LAUSD’s cafeterias cancel ultra-processed plastic packaged cooked food (such as Chicken and Pork Chunks and hamburgers) at lunch and breakfast (such as cupcakes) and milk of the brand “Driftwood”. We also hope LAUSD can consistently provide the rare fresh cooked food they’ve been provided and provide more resources of iron, calcium, protein, fiber, and vitamin A, C, D but not using the plastic packages to pack them.
And because scientific research increasingly shows that heating food in plastic packaging can release microplastics and plastic chemicals into the food we eat. And ultra-processed foods are often crammed with saturated fat, salt and sugar. They’ve been linked to a variety of health problems, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. And the milk of the brand “Driftwood” is frequently provided in LAUSD’s school cafeterias, but we’ve noticed that while it hasn't been as physically separated ("rubbery") on the day we get the milk of the the brand “Driftwood”, but it developed into this state within two days, instead of milk, it contained a piece of rubber and a large amount of water—Due to our research, it the bacteria may have entered through a defective seal, or the milk was not properly pasteurized or sanitized during the packaging or processing, so this milk is not safe to consume at any point. And we hope they will add more resources of those nutritions because they are necessary for teenagers and the cafeterias don't provide enough of them.
Here at University High School Charter, we once had school chefs that made the food on campus for both breakfast and lunch, but now those same kitchens go dusty more than twenty years later as food quality declined into the state we see today. On our campus we have milk being served expired, maggots being found in cereal, and the vegan orange chicken with rice unappetizing to look at, along with it being tasteless and dry. Every school in the LAUSD district is served microwaved hot lunches, not just ours, and we want to make sure that every student gets the opportunity to have appetizing meals. Especially since a majority of students in LAUSD come from low-income households that may not even get the chance to have breakfast at home, therefore possibly making school breakfast and lunches their only meals. We hope that with enough signatures, we can reach out to the heads of LAUSD and get them to agree to a change.
