The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board continues to take many steps to support the beautifully diverse community within our schools. Unfortunately, students and staff are facing an increase in incidences of homophobia and transphobia, such as being targets for the use of inappropriate and offensive language, the destruction of initiatives being created by school-led equity clubs, and much more. This hate has a significant impact on our ability to learn and teach, thrive, be ourselves, and takes a significant toll on our mental health. 

2SLGBTQIA+ staff and students deserve to know that we are respected, and valued in our schools. We deserve to have a visual representation that celebrates our community and aids in strengthening the fundamental Catholic teaching that we are all created in the image of God, our Creator, who makes no mistakes.

This petition is asking for DPCDSB to raise the Pride Flag at all schools across our board during Pride Month. 

Within the last two years, Peel District School Board, Halton Catholic District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board, Niagara Catholic District School Board, Ottawa Catholic School Board, and many others have made the decision to raise the flag at all schools within their respective boards. DPCDSB needs to take the same step to enable the success and acceptance of all our students and staff.
