Raise RECE wages

The Issue

As a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE), I am passionate about nurturing young minds and laying the foundation for their future success. However, despite the critical role we play in society, we are often undervalued and underpaid. This not only affects our ability to provide the best care and education for children but also hampers our livelihood and well-being.

Early childhood education is crucial in shaping children’s cognitive, social, and emotional development. Research shows that high-quality early childhood education leads to better outcomes in education, health, and economic productivity. Yet, despite the evidence underscoring the importance of our work, RECEs in Ontario continue to earn wages that do not reflect our dedication, skillset, and the impact we have on the future generations.

According to a 2021 report by the Atkinson Centre, the average hourly wage for RECEs in Ontario remains significantly lower than that of the overall Canadian workforce. This discrepancy not only undermines the profession but also leads to high turnover rates, affecting the stability and quality of early childhood programs.

We call on the Ontario government to take immediate action to address this wage gap. This can be achieved by increasing funding for early childhood education, ensuring that funds are allocated specifically to enhance the salaries of RECEs. Implementing a standardized wage grid that reflects our qualifications and experience will not only help retain skilled educators but also attract new talent to the field.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for fair wages for RECEs, acknowledging the essential work we do and helping to secure a brighter future for our children.

Sign this petition to support the call for increased wages for RECEs in Ontario, and ensure that those who shape young minds are valued and compensated fairly for their indispensable contributions.
