Raise Lake Hodges! Prevent a Catastrophic Wildfire in San Diego County!

The Issue

Join us in demanding that local officials raise Lake Hodges by just 13 feet to prevent a potentially deadly wildfire, protect our water and restore wildlife.

Lake Hodges -- once a vibrant reservoir supporting local wildlife and water security -- has been drained to dangerously low levels. This has exposed over 500 acres of dry brush, drastically increasing deadly wildfire risk for communities across North County like Rancho Santa Fe and Escondido.

We watched in horror as more than 6,800 structures burned in the devastating Palisades Fire. We cannot be next.

CAL FIRE maps show wildfire danger zones around the lake have expanded by nearly 50% since 2011. Meanwhile, the dam’s failure risk remains less than 0.1%, while wildfire risk exceeds 50% each dry season.

Raising Lake Hodges by just 13 feet would:

🔥 Submerge dry vegetation that fuels wildfires
💧 Restore 10 billion gallons of water storage — enough for five years of drought
🦆 Rebuild wetlands for threatened bird species like the Grebe
⚡ Strengthen hydroelectric power and reduce local energy costs
🧱 Reinforce the dam’s structural stability through proper hydrostatic pressure
Keeping Lake Hodges drained harms both people and the environment. It weakens the dam, fuels wildfires and destroys vital wetland ecosystems.

We call on the City of San Diego and the Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) to approve the restoration of Lake Hodges to 293 feet — a safe, science-backed level that protects our homes, water and wildlife.

Sign now to demand immediate action — before the next fire wipes out thousands of homes and puts lives at risk. NOTE: Any contributions you make on this platform are appreciated and go toward the platform's efforts to promote this petition so it reaches a wider audience, but the funds are not donated directly to us and we do not have access to them.
