Raise awareness and funding for optional home schooling

Raise awareness and funding for optional home schooling
The Issue
Many of us are caught in a cycle where the balance between work, school and home is tenuous at best, and detrimental to our children's development at worst. Many parents and carers experience the struggle of missing valuable milestones, quality time with their children outlining the unhealthy and unbalanced time split between work/school and home life.
This has led to increased missed opportunities for bonding, and nurturing the personal, social, and emotional development of a child—core areas, as outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. The stronger bond between parent and child is essential for fostering a child's well-being and personal growth, but is often strained or neglected due to current educational constraints.
Optional home schooling offers a valuable opportunity for supporting, nurturing and enhancing this essential bond. Studies have shown that children thrive best when they can explore the world at their own pace, within their own time; in the safe and comfortable environment of their home, rather than through a classroom window.
Here, parents, who understand their children's unique needs and abilities, can guide them more effectively than a standardised curriculum built for the masses. Evidence suggests that children who are home schooled frequently exceed traditional curriculum standards, demonstrating heightened curiosity, creativity, and advanced problem-solving skills.
However, a significant barrier remains: the lack of sufficient funding and resources for parents who choose the home schooling route for their children. This prevents many families who would prefer to home school from doing so, relegating them and their children to the mainstream system, regardless of whether it truly fits their needs. By raising awareness and advocating for adequate funding for home schooling families, we can offer children across the nation the opportunity to learn in ways that best suit their individual needs.
This petition calls for educational authorities to not only recognise optional home schooling as a viable educational path but also to provide necessary financial support. This should include grants, home-schooling income, tax incentives, and access to educational resources, all of which would enable parents to facilitate high-quality education at home. Success stories from many countries with strong home schooling frameworks show that properly supported home schooling can lead to exemplary educational outcomes.
Join us in advocating for a more flexible, supportive and nurturing educational environment for our children. Sign this petition to urge the government to provide proper funding and resources for home schooling parents, enabling them to equip their children for a successful future on their own terms.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of countless families, ensuring that our children's short yet vital childhood years are well spent in an environment that maximises their potential and joy, in a loving manner.
