Raise Awareness about Trump's Changes to US Immigration Policies and What They Could do

The Issue

Many of us care about the sanctuary status of churches and schools, as well as the principle of birthright citizenship. These are essential elements in our lives, and for families across the nation. Today, these elements are under threat. President Trump, via executive orders, is considering changes that pose a serious impact on our society. His reevaluation of sanctuary statuses and an attempt to remove birthright citizenship have caused deep concern.

I personally feel that huge potential harm this will inflict on countless families would be way too out of control. Picture the families that have come here legally being mistaken for illegal immigrants, suddenly being disrupted and possibly torn apart by these policies just because they were at their place of worship or at school studying or parents having their children taken away just because they didn't have citizenship at the child's birth. This isn't just about law; it's about the heart of our nation.

Research from the American Immigration Council showed that around 300,000 children are born to undocumented immigrants in the U.S every year. These children, under current law, are granted U.S citizenship (American Immigration Council, 2020). Stripping birthright citizenship would potentially leave these children stateless and subject to deportation, disparaging hundreds of thousands of lives.

If we could raise awareness about this issue then maybe President Trump could reconsider his stance on these important issues we could live in a happier and fairer America.
