The Issue

Mental health is an issue that affects students every single day, yet many schools still do not provide enough support for those who struggle silently. Students with ADHD, anxiety, IEPs, stress, depression, and other mental health challenges often feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, or ignored in school environments that are supposed to help them succeed. Too many students are expected to keep up academically while battling emotional and mental struggles without enough resources, support systems, or awareness from others around them.

This movement was created to raise mental health awareness in schools and push for stronger support for all students, especially those with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, or emotional struggles. Every student deserves to feel seen, supported, safe, and understood in their education. Mental health should be treated just as seriously as physical health.

The purpose of this movement is to:

  • Raise awareness about mental health in schools
Advocate for stronger support for students with IEPs, ADHD, anxiety, and other challenges
  • Encourage schools to create safer and more understanding environments
  • Help students feel comfortable asking for help without fear or judgment
  • Push communities and school leaders to take student mental health seriously
  • Make sure all students have equal opportunities to succeed academically and emotionally

This issue is personally important to me because my brother has an IEP, and I have seen how students can struggle when they do not receive the attention, understanding, or accommodations they need. No student should feel alone, judged, or left behind because of challenges they cannot control.

Through this petition, we are asking our community, schools, and leaders to take student mental health more seriously by increasing awareness, providing more support and resources, educating staff and students, and creating a school environment where students can ask for help without fear or shame. If nothing changes, more students may continue struggling in silence, fall behind academically, feel isolated, or lose motivation in school.

Together, we can create schools where mental health matters and every student has the opportunity to succeed.
