Rahway Needs to FINALLY form a Tree Commission and ... we're almost there!
The Issue
For the last four city administrations, I’ve been campaigning for Rahway to form a much-needed Tree Commission to oversee all our tree care decisions. Then, at the October 2024 Rahway City Council meeting, I spoke about the issue along with the support of Rahway resident Lorin Fernandez and Andrew Voros, the creator of the Rahway River Watershed Association (as it is known today).
It was a heartfelt presentation that revealed our city’s recent street tree inventory: Street Trees are in crisis. The vast majority of our 5,700 street trees need professional tree pruning, and 500 should be cut down because they are either sick or dead.
A large crowd in the audience applauded the presentation and it was well received by both city council and Mayor Ray Giacobbe. So, let’s make sure it gets accomplished by signing this petition and letting them know how much we all care about our beautiful street trees.
