Fire Lucilla Agosti of R101 Radio Italia

The Issue

With all that's been happening in the past few days with the allegations of assault, harassment and hate against the members of 5 Seconds of Summer, I do not find it fair that they are being dragged and cancelled over things that are probably not true and/or proven as true or false (at the point of writing this) and forget about what happened in a particular interview that took place in 2018 that requires more attention to the public.

In 2018, 5 Seconds of Summer was on a promotional tour for their single 'Want You Back' and their upcoming album. One of their stops was at an Italian radio station R101, on a talk show hosted by Lucilla Agosti. At first, nothing was wrong with the interview - just the usual question-answer routine - until it got towards timestamp: 7:03 (Video is self-explanatory so I will not describe what's being done/said). Towards the end, she says something in Italian, which translates loosely to: "I also wanted to take off my pants, you're lucky I didn't."

This is absolutely disgusting. Some other things she did in the video (in case you chose not to watch it) that are inexcusable and disgusting were:

  • She forcefully sat on Michael's lap despite him saying "I can't do this because I have a girlfriend" and moved as far back as he could;
  • She then had the nerve to say "oh come on" like the were party-poopers;
  • She pulled on Luke's t-shirt trying to force it off him AND force the other guys to strip.

Imagine if roles were reversed: the interviewer was a man, interviewing a female celebrity, and asks her to take his shirt off and force himself to sit on her lap and try to remove her shirt. He'd have been dragged, cancelled and barred from the entertainment industry for good.

This woman, Lucilla Agosti? Still has her job. And keep in mind she was a forty-year-old woman at the time of the interview, forcing herself on 22-24-year olds.

With the wake of the current allegations particularly against Michael, I think it's only fair that people remember this actually happened. Harassment is not okay when both genders do it. Females can be as much a predator as males.

So while people are cancelling 5SOS for past mistakes which they either never did or have already apologised for, think about this interview.
