Veto the "Don't Say Gay Bill"

The Issue

Recently Florida has passed a Bill known as the "Don't Say Gay Bill." This bill has made it illegal for teachers to discuss sexual identity and orientation with students. Many Republicans defend the bill, saying it will enforce parents to teach their children about these things and take subject matter that is apparently inappropriate out of school. Needless to say, this bill is rather hypocritical and an obvious attempt to erase members of the LGBTQ+ community from the public eye. While it is important for parents to discuss sexual identity and sexual orientation with their child at any age, especially at a young age, it is also important for schools to address these topics as well because it is a sad fact that not many parents will talk about these things with their children, be it out of ignorance to any feelings their child might have or bigoted feelings toward the subject matter. That is why I am making this petition, so that school can remain a safe space for students who need somebody to talk to when they can't with their family. Many of my closest friends  have struggled with finding their sexual orientation and sexual identity, I myself struggle with such things today. This bill in essence will keep many students from discovering that part of themselves, and potentially drive them to hurt themselves or possibly others. In addition, this bill will not only prevent talk of transgender and queer topics but cisgender and heterosexual topics. So please, to allow us to normalize and embrace the multi-colored rainbow that is our sexual orientation and identity, sign this petition.
