The Issue

Yesterday, October 27, 2021, the Quinnipiac University Student Government Association (SGA) held a vote regarding whether or not they should sign onto a letter asking President Biden to relieve student loan debt. As a result of their vote, SGA opted not to sign onto this letter.
We are very disappointed in the decision made by SGA not to adopt this letter. Student loan debt plagues tens of millions of people in this country, including students within our community here at Quinnipiac. The Quinnipiac University Democrats believe it is an insult to low-income students who depend on loans to attend the university, who later have to leave our Bobcat community and enter the world with, upwards, of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of debt.
The Quinnipiac University Democrats strongly believe that SGA had the opportunity to help, even if it is in the slightest capacity, alleviate shackles of debt that some students are bound by.
We hope, but aren’t faithful given the voting margin, that SGA will reconsider their decision. It is up to the Quinnipiac student body to express our opinions and have our representatives in SGA act in accordance to what we deem is in our best interests.
