Quicker Evictions Due to Rental Arrears in Nova Scotia

Quicker Evictions Due to Rental Arrears in Nova Scotia
The Issue
I am a concerned citizen of Nova Scotia, deeply affected by the current situation where landlords are unable to evict non-paying tenants from their rental properties. This is not just a local issue, but one that resonates across Canada. Our homes are our investments and it's disheartening to see them compromised due to existing laws.
According to a report by the Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations (CFAA), there has been an increasing trend in rental arrears since the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. This has put immense pressure on landlords who rely on these payments for their livelihoods.
We understand that everyone has been hit hard by this pandemic, including tenants who may be struggling financially. However, we believe there needs to be a fair solution that doesn't disproportionately affect landlords.
We propose a review and amendment of current eviction laws in Nova Scotia and across Canada. These amendments should ensure protection for both landlords and tenants during such unprecedented times.
By signing this petition, you're supporting countless homeowners whose investments are at risk due to inability evict non-paying tenants. Stand with us as we strive for fairness and balance in our housing laws here in Nova Scotia and beyond.
My personal story:
I have had a couple living in my house rent free from November 15 through to March. The Director of The NS Tenancy Board gave them an eviction date of March 7. The tenants appealed the directors decision, requested an extension and were granted another 6 weeks until the next hearing date. (April 24) I have no other choice but to try and sell my property as I am u able to continue paying for them to stay in my property. I would rather sell than lose my house to the bank.
I am a single income person/household with property taxes, utility bills, insurance, etc. and with the rising costs of everything, it impossible for me to do with rent not being paid to cover my rental property expenses.
They are currently in arrears $6050, money I will never see!
