Hon Annastacia Palaszczuk, Hon Cameron Dick, Hon Jackie Trad, Hon Grace Grace, Hon Steve Dickson Hon Rob Molhoek on behalf of Queenslanders and Northern NSW patients and carers we ask that you investigate hospital car park price gouging.
Patients, carers, family and friends mostly can not afford the exorbitant prices of car parking to either attend appointments, long term care & treatment or to visit and care for a loved one.
RBWH, PA, LCCH & Mater, also GCUH and SCUH are hospitals that are frequently used by locals and rural folk, many are forced to use these car parks due to physical limitations and access along with time restraints. The nearby options of metered street parking are not a solution to many as they only permit mostly upto 4hrs parking some areas are just 2 hrs. When attending appointments this time limit is unreasonable.
There are people who are unwell that attend hospitals, this means many are not physically capable of walking up hills, long - medium distances in the roaring sun or torrential rain.
We ask that you please follow NSW and put a stop to profiting from sick Queenslanders (and Nth NSW).
Social and welfare workers are limited in the amount of parking vouchers that can be issued and of course there are those who despite paying hundreds a month are told they are not in hardship and don't qualify for a voucher, then there's those who are unaware they can access vouchers.
I also ask on behalf of those who require disability parking that greater access be provided closer to hospitals and also allocated parking. Too many are forced to drive around to learn there are no parking spots within a suitable distance to access the hospital and have no option but to pay private car parking fees.
This is about the health and well being of patients and ensuring the sickest are not forced to go broke just so they can access the hospital that provides the care they require.
Many rural patients who are staying at the new Ronald McDonald House are also required to pay these exorbitant parking fees as less then 19 car spaces are available on site. This means parents of sick children are expected to pay approx $30 per day or $110 per week on top of living away from home & travel expenses.
Mater Hospitals own 3 car parks, these car parks include access to both Mater Children's Private Hospital and Queensland's only public Children's Hospital (Lady Cilento Children's Hospital) these are Queensland's only Childrens Hospitals.
Our Hospital car park fees exceed Brisbane airport parking fees. No one goes to hospital for a holiday, they go to visit loved ones and access healthcare.
