Protect the public from repeat youth offenders

The issue

Following the tragic deaths of a 6 month pregnant 31 yr old woman and 37 yr old man while walking their dog in January 2021 in Alexandra Hills there needs to a change in the sentencing of Repeat Youth Criminals.

The 17yr old male responsible for these deaths reportedly fled from the scene, tried to steal another vehicle and has a history of 50+ prior offences.

Unfortunately the prior warning signs were there that this would occur and the justice system has failed in its duty to protect the public.

This is not the first time lives have been taken by a repeat youth offender in similar circumstances.

Unfortunately this will continue to occur until changes are made to protect the public from these repeat offenders. If the offenders are too immature to cease endangering innocent lives through their actions then they need to be imprisoned and removed from society, in order to protect innocent members of the public.

There cannot be immunity from imprisonment due to age, as the public is not immune from the fatal consequences of their crimes.

The QLD justice system is currently failing in it’s core duty to protect the public from dangerous criminals who have no respect for life or laws. There needs to be changes. These deaths were preventable.
