We, CIB Amsterdam, are presenting the following petition to Skatepark NOORD, located in Amsterdam Noord, to ask that entry for rollerskaters and inline skaters be permitted at their park.

 

 

 

CIB Amsterdam is a community chapter dedicated to developing the aggressive rollerskating/park skating quad scene in the city. We have found there that the absence of an indoor space in Central Amsterdam has slowed the progression of this community. Without an indoor location easily accessible via bike or public transport, it makes the organization of meetups and larger skate events extremely difficult. The need for infrastructure is apparent and has been voiced by many members of our community.

 

 

 

 

 

Skatepark NOORD says it best on their own website: “Skatepark NOORD is the indoor skatepark of Amsterdam.”. However, this is not true for all skaters as entry is allowed exclusively to skateboarders. Has this always been the case? No. Previously, rollerskaters and inline were welcome to join for Sunday nights and later for the biweekly Queer and Girls night organized by New Wave. Swiftly and without explanation, these open sessions returned to skateboarders-only status. As recently as December 2023, a single roller disco night was organized for jam quad skaters (aka. dance skaters). Clearly, while Skatepark NOORD maintains that the park is solely for skateboarding, they have already established a precedent that the park can and has accommodated other types of skating. We are hoping they will accommodate us once again. We happily skate alongside skateboarders in other parks and in other cities; we do not see why this would not also be a possibility at Skatepark NOORD!

We have attempted to communicate with Skatepark NOORD via phone, e-mail and Instagram. While we have received sparse responses here and there, we feel it is necessary at this point to demonstrate the strong motivation the community has for joining sessions at the park. We hope this will finally open a discussion between CIB Amsterdam and Skatepark NOORD to find a solution for quads, inlines and skateboards to roll together.
