Petition updatePut the Canadian flag first

Government clings to Union Jack 85 years after independence. Time to let go.

Today is the biggest relationship break-up day of the year, and our history bears that out. On December 11th, 85 years ago, Canada broke up with the United Kingdom, finally ending our colonial status. Yet, to mark the anniversary of the Statute of Westminster, the government orders all federal properties to hoist the British flag today. Flying the flag of another country is a queer way to mark one's independence. We know you agree it's time we changed this and other antiquated flag rules. Now it's time to spread to the word to friends and colleagues. Share this petition so leaders know that, while breaking up may be hard to do, it's been 85 years! A healthy break-up shouldn't leave one partner impaired by clinging to the symbols that remind it of bygone days. It's time to let go.
