Put an End to the Use of Sparx Maths and Science Program

Put an End to the Use of Sparx Maths and Science Program
The Issue
As someone personally impacted by the effects of the Sparx Maths program, it's time to recognize the detrimental effects it has on our children. On top of time spent in virtual learning, Sparx Maths is increasing our children's screen time even further, exacerbating the strain on their eyes from prolonged device use. This program is making our kids' health suffer by making their homework entirely online, without considering the overall wellbeing implications.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends limiting the screen time of children aged 6 to 18 to just 2 hours per day [WHO]. Yet, with the inclusion of Sparx Maths and Science in their daily routines, students are going far beyond these recommended restrictions. From online classes to additional online homework, it's pushing screen time to an unhealthy extent.
Adding to this, a study from the BMJ Open Ophthalmology has shown considerable increases in nearsightedness due to longer time spent on screens during the pandemic. The strain on children's eyes caused by the Sparx Maths and Science program can only serve to accelerate these detrimental effects.
It's time to replace Sparx Maths with traditional teaching methods that look beyond the digital world and consider the overall impact on our children's health. Let us work together to protect our children's future. Please sign the petition to end the use of Sparx Maths and Science for all children.
