Put an End to Exploitative Door-to-Door Charity Fundraising Practices

The Issue

Our young adults are being exploited through a practice that we see in our neighborhoods every day. My son was just one of the many victims of these unfair schemes, hired for door-to-door charity fundraising only to face long, uncompensated hours. He would work for up to 12hours a day, receive no pay if he failed to meet his 'quota', or his sign ups were declared invalid. Meanwhile, the owner of the charity drove a luxury Sports car and frequently took expensive trips to glamorous locations.

This isn't a solitary incident. I often see other young people, full of hope and a genuine wish to help, walking the streets for hours on end, knowing that they may end up without any pay.

It's crucial to understand that such practices can generate a vicious cycle of poverty and exploitation, especially for those who are desperately in need of a job. According to a report from The Guardian in 2018, door-to-door charity fundraisers, also known as 'chuggers' can often be trapped in zero-hours contracts, leaving them susceptible to these unjust practices.

Therefore, we are demanding an end to the exploitation embedded in door-to-door charity fundraising. We need legislation that ensures fair pay, regulated working hours, and a work environment that respects the dignity of our hardworking young people.

Sign this petition now to help us put a stop to these deplorable practices. Let's make a change for our youth, for our society. Let's act now.
