Put a Stop to Ocean Pollution Now

Put a Stop to Ocean Pollution Now
The issue
Currently, our world is suffering brutally from plastic waste pollution. Plastic makes up around 80% of all marine debris across the world and the ocean as we know it today is in harm of becoming permanently uninhabitable. Plastic waste floods into the ocean from improper waste disposal with or without bad intentions to the environment. There are untreated sewage and industrial chemicals which make their way into the ocean, harming all living things from fish to sharks to reefs to micro-organisms. This issue started in ancient times, however, modern ocean pollution began in the 80th-90th century and sky-rocketed in 1950 when there was a global mass production of synthetic plastics. This issue is most common in coastal regional areas and is most worse in areas such as Southeast Asia.

Hundreds of marine life species are being harmed and killed and the natural balance of ecosystems are becoming disrupted. Climate change is accelerating because of ocean pollution and our Earth is getting destroyed by the minute. What is certain is that if it continues to worsen, there will become dead zones in the ocean. In these dead zones, life will not be present as the areas become inhabitable. They're caused by massive algal blooms which deplete the ocean's oxygen, resulting in thousands of marine life to be wound up dead.
What can you do to help?
There are many actions you can do everyday to work together to save our environment. These actions include putting rubbish in its designated bin, picking up loose trash you see floating around and reminding those around you to follow these steps.
