Push for Charger Theater’s ability to produce Legally Blonde

The Issue

UPDATE: The Fulshear High School administration has stubbornly decided Legally Blonde is not going to be performed. I am so sorry to the parents and students who donated and shared and eagerly waited for the show to truly be performed. We love you all and I personally, as a Fulsehar Theater student, appreciate all of the support we have gained. It means the world to us to know the whole community supports us even if our leaders and authority do not. I have learned it sometimes takes more than a village. I am beyond disappointed and upset and will forever look poorly on my administration, but I intend to move on with confidence to show them my department will be resilient to hate. We will put in every drop of effort into whatever musical we end up doing and do it with a smile on our face and a frown on our hearts.

Charger Theater intended to put on Legally Blonde as our winter musical, a musical everyone within our company and our entire community had been anticipating with great excitement. A recent decision tells us we can’t put on the beloved pink sparkly show because of the song “There Right There” which centers around determining if a witness on trial is Gay or European because of his foreign and flamboyant style choices. They also have an issue with the song “Bend and Snap” which features the iconic move from the movie to convince Paulette that she’s the beautiful woman Elle knows she is. Administration sees these songs as a topic that is unfit for everyone in our town and community. The students and family of our department strongly believe otherwise, and we encourage you to sign and show your support. Administration is incorrectly assuming our community will respond poorly, let’s show them we will respond with love for the arts, and the educational opportunities production theater offers. Stand up with us against censorship and nourish the artistic extracurriculars in our community and school.

Thank you to the students and parents and families and friends who have signed so far! Remember this is to show the community's support for the musical- and to show just how many people would be dissatisfied if we are truly denied the show. It is NOT anti-Fulshear High School administration. It is just pro-theater.

Donations are NOT necessary, the money goes to the website not to us. It is only something that supports the petition page to gain more traction which, while appreciated, is not what I am asking for and nobody should feel obligated to do so.

The mention of “us” and “we” in this petition description is simply representative of my student peers in theater, my family, and me. OUR community.
