Push for Accountability from GoPro for Deceptive Business Practices and Breach of Warranty

Push for Accountability from GoPro for Deceptive Business Practices and Breach of Warranty
The Issue
As a professional who relied on GoPro products, I’ve been severely impacted by their lack of support and discontinued essential apps. I started with the GoPro Fusion, which was abandoned when GoPro discontinued the Fusion Studio app, rendering the camera useless for my work. Now, as a GoPro Max user, I’m facing the same issue: GoPro has announced they are shutting down the Quik Desktop app, which is essential for stitching together 360 videos. This move left many professional users, like myself, in a lurch.
I’ve been trying to get in touch with GoPro’s customer service since 2022, but my efforts have been completely ignored. Despite the fact that I paid over $500 for the camera, I was left with a product that no longer performed as promised. After reaching out to customer service multiple times, I never received a response. Now, the service feature on their website is greyed out, leaving me without any means to resolve the issue. This is an example of their disregard for the people who invested in their products.
This abrupt obsolescence caused significant damage to my livelihood. I was unable to complete a client project, resulting in not only a financial loss but also a hit to my professional reputation. I trusted GoPro to provide reliable tools for my work. When this trust was broken, it led to immense psychological distress and financial hardship. If this has happened to me, how many other GoPro customers are facing similar issues with no help in sight?
In 2020, GoPro discontinued the Fusion Studio app shortly after launching the GoPro Max in late 2019. They replaced it with the Quik app, which supported 360 editing but lacked some of Fusion Studio's features, leaving many GoPro Fusion users feeling unsupported. History is now repeating itself with GoPro’s announcement to discontinue the Quik Desktop app for the GoPro Max, a camera marketed as a professional tool. This decision forces users to switch to a mobile-only editing solution, which is inadequate for many professional creators who rely on desktop editing for efficiency and quality.
GoPro has consistently failed to support its customers by discontinuing essential software applications necessary for its products. These actions not only reflect GoPro's lack of commitment to its existing user base but also disrupt the livelihoods of professionals who depend on these tools to deliver client projects. The result is financial loss and unnecessary stress for those who rely on their products to earn a living.
We, the undersigned, urge GoPro to address ongoing issues related to customer service, product reliability, and subscription management.
1. Customer Service Failures:
Many users report difficulty in reaching a live representative, long wait times, and unresolved issues. Customers seeking help for faulty products or missing parts often face delays and frustration.
2. Product Malfunctions and Reliability:
Several GoPro models, including Hero 7 and GoPro Max, fail after minimal use, leaving customers with expensive, unusable products. Issues such as cameras not turning on or malfunctioning video features are common.
3. Unwanted Subscription Charges:
Many customers have encountered problems with GoPro’s subscription services, including ongoing charges even after cancellation attempts or for features they did not use.
4. Discontinued Features and Software:
GoPro has discontinued software that many customers relied on for features like 360-degree video stitching, leaving products that no longer function as advertised.
5. Warranty and Return Issues:
Customers have reported being denied warranty claims for cameras that failed prematurely, with some receiving refurbished replacements instead of new units.
A class-action lawsuit against GoPro will send a strong message that such consumer manipulation is unacceptable. We urge you to sign this petition to seek justice, accountability, and the necessary changes in the way GoPro operates and supports its products. Your signature can make a significant difference in the fight against unethical corporate behavior.
