Partner with Purdue's College of Veterinary Medicine to create TNR program for stray cats

The Issue

The feral cat population in Fayette County, IN has reached an unmanageable level. Unaltered cats with fleas, worms, and incurable diseases are reproducing at a rapid rate all over the city and county, resulting in property damage, health risks to pets, decimation of songbirds and other native wildlife, and sick kittens that, if they survive, will inevitably continue the cycle. We, the citizens of Connersville, are petitioning Purdue to deploy the students in their veterinary medicine program to establish a trap-neuter-release program to humanely and effectively tackle this problem. While students could receive helpful on-the-job training, Connersville could regain some control of the feral cat populations that have taken hold. We have many residents that have offered to assist with the trapping, transportation and aftercare of these cats.
