Change Puerto Rico's National Anthem "La Borinqueña" to "Preciosa" by Marc Anthony

Change Puerto Rico's National Anthem "La Borinqueña" to "Preciosa" by Marc Anthony
The Issue
The current version of Puerto Rico's national anthem, "La Borinqueña", was written by Manuel Fernandez Juncos on 1903. The song was later adopted as Puerto Rico's regional anthem in 1952 by governor Luis Muñoz Marin. "La Borinqueña" has been part of the Puerto Rican culture for over a century and it is played at official events. While it highlights Puerto Rico's land and beauty, "La Borinqueña" contains a piece where a genocidal character who brought violence and death throughout the land is mentioned. In "La Borinqueña's" third stanza, the historical figure of Christopher Columbus is mentioned indicating that he arrived at Puerto Rico's beaches. History proves that Spanish explorers annihilated most of the indigenous people, either through violence or disease. A national anthem should never praise a character such as Christopher Columbus. Therefore, the citizens of Puerto Rico are requesting to change the island's national anthem "La Borinqueña" to "Preciosa" by Marc Anthony. "Preciosa" is a 5 minute long song created by the two-time Grammy Award and six-time Grammy Award winner, Marc Anthony. "Preciosa" is a worldwide masterpiece that accurately describes the beautiful people of Puerto Rico and the island's enchantment. Millions Puerto Ricans living in the island or at the mainland feel a sense of pride whenever "Preciosa" is played. Please sign and share to others as support to this cause.
