Stop Public Storage's severe neglect and overcharging
Why this petition matters
Public Storage does not treat their employees, current tenants, or in fact, any potential customers, properly. They do not maintain facilities, force bad insurance on tenants, are unsafe, change policies without proper warning, and raise rent more than once a year to higher than fair market value prices. They also let bugs, filth, people living in units, floods, robbery, heat, and creatures take over. No one cares if people come in to stay after hours, harass tenants, live in units, trash the place, or force their way in on others' codes via gates, doors, or elevators.
Public Storage will not repair elevators, a/c units, bathrooms, floors, doors, lights, or gates. Facilities are often without lights, paint, trash cans, bathrooms, or proper temperatures. Instead, they are all about profits, mistreatment, and financial abuse. You will find them quick to cut locks or overcharge tenants with fees upon fees, even when the tenant is innocent of any wrong doings and has completely followed their stated rules. If a tenant encounters an issue that Public Storage is in fact responsible for, they will deny, shift blame, ignore, lie, or flat out punish the tenant. However, usually no one is available or can even be reached after countless calls and/or messages.
Setting up accounts online can be very difficult and they do not answer phones or usually have any sense of customer service. Staff tell lies, are lazy, rude, incompetent, and do not properly assist tenants. Carts are hard to obtain and so is any parking near loading docks.
Rent increases are given multiple times a year and without proper written warning. There is no rent discount offered, even to those in severe need. On top of that all, they substantially raised rates during Covid to intentionally take advantage.
Any decent, hardworking employees are forced to lie, overworked, and are understaffed at facilities. They are quick to be fired unfairly, especially if profits are not at expected levels. Sadly, they do not even receive storage rent discounts of any type themselves. Their safety is often at risk as well. Unless they are greedy district or regional managers, they are usually grossly underpaid.
Help hold Public Storage and similar facilities partaking in such actions, accountable. People should be treated with respect and feel safe, pay fair prices, receive the help they need, and be in a clean environment.
