Public safety for all US citizens and businesses in California

Public safety for all US citizens and businesses in California
The Issue
On September 5, my Uncle, 88-year-old Kim Hung, endured an unfathomable assault during an armed robbery at his jewelry store. His assailants brutally slammed him to the floor, causing a stroke and a heart attack. Against all odds, he survived. Yet, while he now faces a long path to recovery, his business faces an uncertain future.
The psychological scars run deep within his family. Our community, once vibrant and secure, is now engulfed in fear. This fear not only affects his clients and supporters but all local business owners who now question their safety.
The impact of one act of violence should not shatter the security blanket of an entire community. Kim’s ordeal is not an isolated incident. According to the FBI, there were nearly 250,000 robberies in the U.S. in 2020, highlighting a safety crisis that small business owners face each day.
We demand immediate action from local authorities. Equip business districts with more CCTV cameras and increase police patrolling, especially in areas with high crime rates. Establish partnerships with community watch programs and provide funds for security upgrades in small businesses.
Furthermore, create support systems for victims and families affected by such violence. Trauma counseling and financial aid can alleviate some of the burdens these horrific events leave in their wake.
Now is the time to take proactive measures to ensure that no family, no business, and no community member has to live in constant fear. Join us in calling for these essential security improvements. Your signature can help shape a safer future for our community. Please sign this petition today and stand with us in our fight for safety and peace of mind.
