Baltimore County is in desperate need of more recreational swimming facilities open to the public. A public indoor pool in this community is an opportunity to provide enriching recreation programs for all ages AND add value to our county.  Without ONE public indoor pool, our county doesn't offer equitable recreational opportunities as neighboring counties. We believe our county deserves comparable resources as our neighbors.

Public indoor swimming pools provide many benefits for communities.

• Adds to communities’ recreational and property values
• Encourages fitness for the whole family
• Increases public safety
• Increases access to fitness classes
• Combats childhood obesity
• Creates jobs
• Can be an important introduction to the world of athletics
• Lifeguard training year-round
• After school activities for youth
• Provides space for recreational activities

We implore the County Executive and the County Council to allocate funds for an Olympic-sized lap swimming pool with a deep well in the county, similar to the Arundel Olympic Swim Center.  Currently, there are tens of thousands of people using the AA County swim facilities annually. There is a great need for similar indoor swimming pools in Baltimore County. 

Plans are already underway for a third indoor swimming space in Anne Arundel County. Montgomery and Prince George Counties also have multiple indoor public swim facilities to name a few.
