Pension Parity: Tier 6 Parole Officers’ Retirement Remain 30/63

New York State Parole Officers
Jul 1, 2026

Dear TIER 6 Parole Officers,

You should be outraged with the Public Employees Federation (PEF). It has failed you once again. Unfortunately, its campaign to “FIX TIER 6” has not changed your retirement age.

Instead, NYS Teachers can retire before TIER 6 Parole Officers, which is absolutely insane since Parole Officers risk their lives everyday supervising convicted felons.

To make matters worse, PEF downplayed our request for a “25 & Out” retirement pension for Parole Officers by sending a PEF Parole Division 236 Newsletter in October 2025 about the pros and cons of early retirement (PEF’s position was more negative than positive).

The reality is, PEF is a civilian union and Parole Officers should be represented by a law enforcement union like the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA).

NYSCOPBA members enjoy “25 & Out” retirement pensions and the union currently has legislation requesting  a “20 & Out” pension for its members. In addition, NYSCOPBA recently secured a legislative victory when its “Death Gamble”  legislation was signed into law this year.

Please stand with us in our fight for pension parity with NYS Correction Officers by emailing this petition update to Danielle.Blue@pef.org in the PEF Legislative Office.

This is a chance for Parole Officers, Senior Parole Officers and  Parole Revocation Specialists to request a “25 & Out” retirement pension as a legislative agenda which could be presented to the 48th Annual PEF Convention body which is set for October 18-21, 2026, in Niagara Falls.

In solidarity,

New York State Parole Officers
