Parole Officers’ Guide to Get the PEF Out!

New York State Parole Officers
Aug 1, 2026

Dear Supporters,

Thank you very much for your support! Because of you all, we now have over 1,600 signatures.

We started this petition six years ago because we strongly believe NYS Parole Officers should be represented by a law enforcement union.

Since the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) is the most powerful law enforcement union at the NYS Department of Corrections & Community Supervision (DOCCS), we strongly believe Parole Officers would benefit from its representation.

Unfortunately, the Public Employees Federation (PEF) is against Parole Officers joining NYSCOPBA and is willing to go to great lengths to stop us from making this a reality, even though PEF is a civilian union.

In order to make joining NYSCOPBA a reality, Parole Officers, Senior Parole Officers and Parole Revocation Specialists have to stop funding PEF by opting out of union dues.

At the present moment, this is the best legal strategy for Parole Officers to leave PEF. If a majority of Parole Officers stop paying union dues, representing Parole Officers would no longer be financially beneficial to PEF and eventually, the union would have to sever ties with Parole Officers.

This strategy was used in 2023 by Liberty Lake Police Officers in order for them to leave their former Teamsters union.  Click here to watch a video of their story.

In solidarity,

New York State Parole Officers
