Actualización de la peticiónNYS Parole Officers Should Join NYSCOPBAParole Reform: PEF Remains Silent While Parolees Get Violent II

Dear Parole Officers,

We are asking you to join us as we hold the Public Employees Federation (PEF) accountable for its silence against ‘Less is More’ parole reform.

Unlike bail reform, the public is unaware of ‘Less is More’ because PEF has done little to nothing to generate media attention.

It’s unfortunate that sex offender parolee Jamel McGriff was able to allegedly torture to death an elderly Queens couple last month.

It’s reported that McGriff never registered as a sex offender (as conditions of his release required). The failure to register would have sent him back to prison — except that Gov. Kathy Hochul in 2021 signed “Less Is More” into law. And so now 85% of parolees who reoffend still get to stay free.

PEF supports parts of ‘Less is More’ and has endorsed every politician that either sponsored or co-sponsored the legislation. That is a conflict of interest for Parole Officers who deserve to be represented by a law enforcement union like the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA).

If you're an active NYS Parole Officer, Senior Parole Officer or Parole Revocation Specialist, click here to hold PEF accountable and stop paying union dues.

In solidarity,

New York State Parole Officers
