Dear Wayne Spence,
We are writing to inform you that pension parity is needed for all Parole Officer titles in New York State. It’s discriminatory that Parole Officers are the only peace officers at the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) without a 25 and out pension benefit.
Please be advised that we have been in contact with the Public Employees Federation's (PEF) Legislative Director, Patrick Lyons and Division 236 Parole Council Leader, Gina Lopez regarding this matter and have suggested the following retirement options:
A. 25 year retirement at any age at 55% of final average salary (FAS).
B. Optional 25 year retirement at any age at 50% of final average salary (FAS). 60% of final average salary (FAS) at 30 years of service.
C. 20 year retirement at any age at 50% of final average salary (FAS).
Since PEF supports the ‘Less is More’ provision of earned time credits (ETC), which discharges people on parole early, PEF should also support early retirement legislation for its Parole Officers who put their lives at risk.
To ensure you receive this letter, we’re asking our petition supporters to email you this update at Wspence@pef.org.
In solidarity,
New York State Parole Officers
