PSU IST Internship Credit

PSU IST Internship Credit

The Issue

Penn State IST major requires at least one internship credit to graduate.

However, if your internship is during the summer semester (which is the most likely case), in order to register for this credit, you need to pay the summer semester tuition fee. This can come up to 1500 dollars depending on your PA/NON-PA status.

1500 dollars for a ONE credit that school requires you to register in order to graduate!

I just got billed from Penn State a couple of days ago to register for my internship credit. Throughout the whole registering process, not a single person told me or mentioned about this fee.

None of the documents that I have signed state anything about the fee either.

Since I am out of state, I got billed about 1500 dollars, which includes school activity fee and information technology fee.
I won't even be on campus and I do not understand why I need to pay 1500 to just register a ONE credit that school requires me.

I have contacted my adviser and IST dean administrators but I never heard back from them.

Don't get me wrong. I love Penn State and I am grateful for all the experiences and opportunities it has given me.

However, as much as I love my school, it is also my responsibility to stand up for an unfair and unjust system. Many students have told me that they feel like they got "scammed" by school.

I feel that students are taken advantage of and it should be fixed. I am not just doing this for myself but for the sake of all the future IST students who would have to go through the same issue.

Thank you !
