Stop regressive and different rules for women and men at PSG Tech

The Issue

There are some subtle (and some not so subtle) rules and behaviors encouraged at PSG Tech which are clearly over-conservative and regressive. When you are preparing your young students to become industry leaders and competitive professionals, you cannot train them to have a mindset where proximity to colleagues of the opposite gender is considered a taboo and is strongly looked down upon. When you want your women students to go on and break the glass ceiling to lead the industry, you cannot raise them in an environment where they have to get back to their hostel dorms 3 hours before the men can, they have more restrictions on dressing than men do or are expected to maintain distance from men in public.

This is NOT how you raise confident leaders and professionals.

A few noteworthy cases are:

6.30 PM curfew for women while there's a 9.30 PM curfew for men

Restrictive and regressive dress code for women (for men too)

"5-feet" distance to be maintained by men and women while (if) performing on the stage

In - general, not allowing men and women to perform cultural activities together during events (dance or theater, for instance)

Watchmen targeting men and women talking/exchanging notes/walking together near women's hostel

Grown up women having to get a guardian to pick them up from the hostel / call and inform the hostel each time they decide to leave the hostel for a vacation. They are adults and need to be treated like adults.

The college has given a lot to students in terms of knowledge and opportunity but we strongly urge you to speak to alumni who have managed to groom themselves into leaders and successful professionals if any of these policies fit in the modern competitive world, where men and women are dynamic, bold and confident.

This needs to stop and you, as the management, need to open up your minds so that you can promote a new generation with an open mind.
