Provision and collection of garden waste (burgundy) bins in South Lanarkshire
Provision and collection of garden waste (burgundy) bins in South Lanarkshire
The Issue
This is a petition to South Lanarkshire Council for the provision and collection of garden waste (burgundy) bins to all villages and hamlets in South Lanarkshire which do not currently receive this service. The residents of Walston, Elsrickle, Newbigging and Kaimend are examples of people currently not provided with this service. Many residents have only small cars and are unable to take garden waste to the Carluke Recycling Centre and have no means of garden waste disposal.
This is a major problem for many residents and is encouraging people to dump garden waste in verges, which is increasing. It also causes some ill-feeling between neighbours when shrubs become intrusive but are not pruned because people have nowhere to put the prunings.
Since the green waste uplift service was suspended at the start of the pandemic (and remains suspended) we have been left with no collection of garden waste, whilst residents of Biggar and Carnwath, for example, have burgundy bins and enjoy fortnightly collections. This is unfair, as we all pay Council tax, which has increased this year. Why are we not all provided with this service and what are we supposed to do with our garden waste? This is a major problem which is becoming worse.
