Why this petition matters

Started by Gene Brown

Los Angeles community college received funding to help a 100 homeless student. Due to the increase in cost of housing  and the economic changes in the past three years, many Los Angeles community colleges have an increase in homeless student.  It is wonderful  1.5 million dollars funding was released to a pilot program to help assisted 100  homeless or housing insecurity student.  This is a great start, but this will only assist a 100 student.  Long Beach City college opened a parking lot near the bathroom and is allowing student who sleep in their cars to have a safe haven. All of the Los  Angeles Community College campuses should offer this program.   This will allow that student dealing with housing issue a better opportunity to complete their education., as the choice of paying for housing verse school should not be a choice student have to make.  Sleeping in a parking lot may not be the best option, but it will allow them to have a safe place to sleep and study. We need to write letter to the  California Community College Chancellor Office requesting they consider this as an option for housing student safely temporary.
