Create a Human Sexuality Course at Providence College
The Issue
We are a group of nine Providence College students seeking to enact change within our community. We hope to use the power of education to stop rape culture and sexual violence at their cores, decreasing the prevalence of sexual assault.
The need for sexual education for college students is clear. RAINN reports that an estimated 26.4% of females and 6.8% of males experience rape or sexual assault, with less than 25% of these incidents being reported. In order to facilitate change and prevent assaults on our campus and beyond, we are advocating for a human sexuality course to be offered at Providence College. This course would cover topics including healthy relationships, consent, sexuality, sexual violence, and more. By taking this course and becoming more educated on these topics, students could make well-informed decisions and foster a healthy, safe environment on campus.
