The Issue
In my local community, like many others across America, the working class is truly struggling. With the extreme rise in inflation, it's becoming increasingly hard for families and individuals to make ends meet. Many of us live paycheck to paycheck, and our incomes barely cover the essentials like rent and bills. This is not a sustainable way to live, and it’s time we address the needs of those who are caught in the middle — the middle class.
Currently, welfare benefits are often out of reach for individuals who earn more than $3,000 a month. However, in today's economy, that income level does not reflect what it used to. The costs of living have escalated so quickly that many middle-class families cannot afford basic necessities like food and medical care after covering their rent and utilities. For example, a recent report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics noted that consumer prices have seen a dramatic increase of 5.3% annually, impacting everything from grocery bills to transportation costs. Yet, wage growth has not kept pace with these rising expenses.
