Thank you for signing our petition and supporting unrestricted access to original birth certificates to adult California born adoptees.

Yesterday I presented a printed copy of our petition to Governor Newsome's office. They have been keeping a file, and were pleased that we are over a thousand signatures. Here are the stats from yesterday.

Petition on Change.Org - Issued Sept. 29th, 2025

Dec. 9th, 2025  - 1,092 Signatures

505 are residing in California currently.

Other signatures come from across the United States and other countries.

Australia, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Sweden, Paraguay, Trinidad and Tobago, Ireland, South Africa, The Netherlands

Many of these people are adoptees born in California that have moved.

Signatures Include Adoptees, Birth Parents, Adopted Parents as well as authors, Podcasters both in the USA and Canada.

It has been shared 764 times.

It appears that we have a Senator authored bill that will be introduced soon. Once it is made official, I will inform you on this platform the bill number and author.

If all goes according to plan, it will be heard in the California Senate Judicial Committee during the week of Jan. 12th. It will most likely be heard on Tuesday, January 13th at 1021 O Street in Sacramento. For the bill to pass Judicial, we need a majority vote from 13 Senators. https://sjud.senate.ca.gov/members

These are public hearings. There will be two people who testify (2 minutes). After that, anyone can say a brief statement in support. Having lots of supporters in attendance makes a difference. Adoptees, birth family members, adoptive family members, concerned citizens etc.

In the meantime, please share this petition, make comments, send a supportive letter.......etc. Feel free to email it to me. PKSTJohns@aol.com.

If you haven't already, you might want to join California Alliance for Adoptee Rights on Facebook. 437 members. Lots of good information there.

Various groups and individuals have attempted to pass similar bills for 50 years. We will keep this petition alive until the Governor signs a clean bill.

Sincerely,
