Thank you for signing this petition. 1,163 so far. We will continue to gather signatures until we have a bill signed into law.

SB381 will be a gut and amend bill. It is not official, but will be next legislative session. By gut and amend, it removes the language of an active bill and replaces it with new language and a new name. If you look it up now, it says nothing about birth certificates!!!!! It will.

Our bill which will provide unrestricted access to original birth certificates to California born adult adoptees will be heard by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, Jan. 13th at 1:30 p.m.  1021 O Street, Sacramento, Ca. We will be gathering at La Bou Bakery and Cafe at 12:30 p.m. 1121 11th St., Sacramento.

We need a majority vote from the 13 members for our bill to move forward. https://sjud.senate.ca.gov/members

We are getting tremendous support from adoptees, birth mothers/families, concerned citizens, adopted families, national groups. We have met either on Zoom or in person with the offices of all 13 Judiciary Senators as well as a multitude of other legislative offices in both the Senate and Assembly.

Feel free to join California Alliance for Adoptee Rights on Facebook. 442 members. We have information on how to write support letters, including some workshops. https://www.facebook.com/groups/caladopteerights

We face a challenging task. People have been trying to pass similar legislation for 50 years. With 16 other states that have passed similar legislation, or never sealed theirs to begin with (Kansas and Alaska) the results have been positive and healing while maintaining the privacy of individuals. If you are an adoptee, your birth certificate belongs to you. It is your first record. You deserve your private access to it just like every other citizen.

All the best during this holiday season!
