Thanks to all of you who have signed. 733. We continue to share the results of this petition with California Legislators. It is making a difference. If you would like to write a support letter, we will add it to our California Alliance for Adoptee Rights Website. https://caallianceforadopteerights.org

We especially need letters of support from birth parents and adoptive parents. Feel free to email me at PKSTJohns@aol.com. - We can keep you anonymous if you wish. We are receiving lots of support from adoptees and birth mothers.

We have no formal opposition except the notion that birth mothers were promised anonymity from their child when they relinquished them. This is not true.

The timeline is:

A. The birthmother gets pregnant and decides to relinquish her child.

B. When she gives birth, the state issues an original birth certificate.

C. Upon relinquishment (could be at birth or with various amounts of time passing. In my case I was with my
birth mother for about 5 days before relinquishment) the child is a ward of the state and the original birth certificate is the only one they have.

D.  Two possible time lines:

        1. The child is adopted and issued an amended birth certificate with false information on it. It names the adopted parents as the birth parents         with no mention of the child being adopted. The original birth certificate is sealed into secrecy by the state. The birth mother in a closed                     adoption most likely does not know whether the child is adopted or in Foster Care.

        2.  The child is never adopted and remains in Foster Care. (Thank goodness for SB117!) In this case, the Foster Youth keeps their original                 birth certificate for their entire life. Just like anyone else, they can choose to show their birth certificate to anyone they want. They can order             more copies. Once again, the birth mother may not know whether or not her child was adopted.

This shows that the birth mothers could not legally be promised anonymity because there was no  guarantee that the child would be adopted.

We applaud the states that have passed similar legislation and wish the best for states like California, that are trying to make this happen.

Everyone has a right to know who they are and where they come from.

With gratitude,

Paul
