The Issue

In Fresno, CA, the sight of starving, sick and dying cats and dogs on the streets is a heartbreaking reality that residents like myself witness daily. Animals are being dumped ruthlessly, living in deplorable conditions, and having babies on the streets, exacerbating the issue with each passing day. Personally, I have dedicated my efforts towards alleviating this crisis by getting around 180 strays spayed and neutered, and facilitating adoptions for approximately 80 animals. However, this is not enough, and I stand in solidarity with organizations like The Kirkland Foundation and Fresno TNR, who tirelessly work to care for these animals despite receiving no governmental support.

The situation in our community is dire. We are in desperate need of resources and cooperation from local authorities to implement effective animal control and welfare measures. Recent studies show that millions of dogs and cats enter animal shelters in the U.S. every year, with many facing euthanasia due to overpopulation and lack of adopters (source: ASPCA). If other regions can address these issues successfully through public funding, community programs, and stricter regulations, so can Fresno.

We propose a multi-faceted solution that involves increasing funding for local animal shelters and rescue groups, instituting comprehensive trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs, and launching public education campaigns about responsible pet ownership. These actions not only help control the stray population but also enhance the quality of life for these animals and the safety of our community.

Let's urge Fresno city officials to allocate necessary resources and recognize the critical role they play in the welfare of both humans and animals in our society.

Please join us in calling for the establishment of these essential programs by signing this petition. Together, we can create a compassionate and humane environment for all our residents, two and four-legged alike. Sign now to make a difference.
