In Prince Albert, the need for an emergency shelter is paramount due to the harshness of our winters. In 2019, even a mild winter saw temperature lows of -36.1 Celsius according to the Government of Canada's yearly climate data. This extremely cold weather poses a great risk to life for the homeless population. The current lack of emergency shelters could make them victims of hypothermia and frostbite, especially if they lack adequate winter clothing. This need becomes even more urgent considering Prince Albert's latest homelessness PIT count interviewed approx. 230 individuals. Let's urge the city officials of Prince Albert to approve a location for the YWCA and ensure that an emergency shelter is available before next winter.
