I'll keep it short and sweet. I think we can all agree as a nation that we are tired of seeing school shootings. No matter your political affiliation, religious beliefs, etc. We can all agree on one thing: We love our kids and when we send them to school we expect not to have to worry about whether or not they will make it home at the end of the day. 

We can go on and on about mental health, background checks, gun law reform,  etc. those are ALL things that do need to be addressed but the fact remains that EVIL will continue to find a way to be evil. The question is, how can we prevent evil from gaining access to our children while they are at school?

Today I am calling on our state and national leaders to put a plan in place to protect our schools. It's no secret that school budgets are already stretched thin so it's going to be up to US to demand more security funding for schools across the nation. Classrooms with small children should be secured. There should be specific entry and exit points with security access throughout so that not just anybody can walk into a classroom or building.

Older students should be required to have proper identification and some form of access badge that only allows them access to specific areas. Many school shootings are committed by former students or students that could be suspended or expelled for disciplinary reasons. Requiring some form of keycard/badge access would allow schools to revoke access to any student at will and could prevent these tragedies from occurring, or, at the very least, slow them down considerably. 

I don't claim to have all the answers and I don't even claim that what I am suggesting is even the best approach, but I am tired of offering thoughts and prayers and am tired of sitting around doing nothing. 

Since schooling in our country is compulsory based on age group, we as parents should hold our leaders accountable to provide the necessary safety and security required to grow and learn in an environment that is free from these acts of evil.
