Provide Medical Assistance for Single Mother Battling Stage 3 Cervical Cancer

The Issue

My name is Viviann Acuna, a single mother of four and grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren. On September 11, 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Cervical Cancer. This diagnosis has turned my life upside down as I struggle to continue my treatment without insurance coverage.

I had been living in Austin, Texas but due to mistreatment and abuse at a group home there, I moved back home to Houston. Now the hospital in Houston tells me they cannot help me because of my lack of insurance. This is despite the fact that I desperately need eight sessions of radiation treatment and six sessions of chemotherapy.

Cervical cancer is a significant health problem worldwide with nearly half a million women diagnosed each year (source: World Health Organization). In America alone, approximately 13,800 new cases will be diagnosed this year (source: American Cancer Society). No one should have to fight this battle alone or without adequate medical assistance.

I am not just fighting for myself but also for my children and grandchildren who need me. But more than that, this petition stands for all those who are battling cancer uninsured and unsupported.

We call on local government bodies and health organizations in Houston to provide resources or programs that can assist uninsured patients like myself with their treatment costs. We urge you not just to save one life but potentially thousands more by making healthcare accessible regardless of insurance status.

Please sign this petition if you believe everyone deserves a fair chance at fighting cancer regardless of their financial situation.
