The Issue

My child is currently a wrestler at Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park, CA, and I have another one who will be joining the team in a few years. As parents, we are deeply concerned about the lack of dedicated space for our children to practice their sport. Wrestling is not just an extracurricular activity; it's a discipline that requires focus, dedication, and proper facilities to ensure safety and promote growth.

Currently, our wrestlers share spaces with other sports teams which can lead to overcrowded conditions and limited practice time. This situation hampers their ability to train effectively and safely. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), wrestling ranks sixth among high school sports in terms of participation nationwide but unfortunately doesn't always receive equal facility consideration.

Providing a dedicated wrestling room would not only show support for these hardworking student-athletes but also contribute positively towards their performance. A study by the American Journal of Sports Medicine shows that adequate training facilities significantly reduce injury rates among athletes.

We urge the administration at Sierra Vista High School and relevant authorities in Baldwin Park to prioritize this issue. Please help us give our wrestlers what they need - their own room where they can safely practice and hone their skills without interruption or compromise on space.

Please sign this petition if you believe in providing equal opportunities for all student-athletes at Sierra Vista High School.
