Provide a Community Hall in Winmalee

The issue

A few years ago, our beloved community hall at 376 Hawkesbury Road was demolished, leaving a vacant lot and a void in our community. This hall was more than just a building; it was the heart of Winmalee, hosting numerous events and activities – it was our meeting place, a symbol of community spirit, unity, and belongingness.

In recent years, the limited functions of the old MYST building, operated as WinCAMP by the Lions Club of Winmalee, have provided some respite. However, the unprecedented challenges of COVID, along with its isolated location, have significantly restricted its usage. Consequently, Winmalee and the nearby communities are left with no appropriate venue for large scale community activities, a matter of significant concern for all of us, HUB* members.  (See below for information about the Winmalee Hub)

Community spaces are not just physical structures, but they contribute deeply to the community's identity, social fabric, and overall wellness. Research indicates that well-used community centers can have a significant positive impact on community health and well-being (Source: Australia Local Government Association). The absence of a functional community hall is limiting our ability to engage as a community, maintain cultural traditions, and ensure that every member feels included and valued.

Let's raise our voices to help rebuild and reopen the Community Hall. We ask the Blue Mountains Council to acknowledge our needs, understand the importance of community spaces, and allocate the necessary resources for this cause. Please sign this petition to bring back our beloved community hall to us. Every signature counts and brings us one step closer to making our community stronger and more united.
