The Issue

This petition is for everyone 18 and older who lives in Denton County, Texas.

Every Election Day in Denton County, thousands of voters show up at every polling place in our county, only to be told that, by law, they can’t vote there or, if they do, their ballot likely won’t be counted.

As Election Day poll workers, we've had to turn away hundreds of legally registered voters:

• Disabled folks with wheelchairs and walkers.

• Working parents who rushed to pick up their kids and arrived at the wrong polling place too late to vote anywhere else,

• Confused newcomers who didn't have this problem when they voted in neighboring counties.

This happens on every Election Day in Denton County:  in primaries, in the general election, in city, county and school board races. It happens to a lot of voters:  10-15% of Election Day voters in our county.

It happened to more than 7,000 Republican, Democrat and independent voters on Election Day in November 2024.

If our elected officials continue to refuse to act, it will happen again in November this year and in every election in the future.

Election workers don't want to keep registered voters from casting ballots, but we have to do it on Election Day in Denton County because it's the county law.  BUT THAT LAW CAN BE CHANGED! It wouldn't be hard to change.

The overwhelming majority of Texas voters already have countywide voting on Election Day, also known as Vote Centers. They can vote in any polling place in their county on Election Day, just like they do during Early Voting.

We don’t have that right in Denton County because the Denton County Commission and the chairman of the county Republican Party won’t agree to allow the same secure countywide voting system on Election Day that we use for Early Voting during every election. These are all elected officials.

If you are 18 or older and live in Denton County, TX, sign our petition and tell them you want the same countywide Election Day voting rights as 85 per cent of Texas voters. (For more information, visit our website votingcentersnow.org.)

After you sign, share this petition to all your friends on social media and email who are voters in Denton County, TX.  We are a grassroots campaign that relies on citizens to spread the word!

Finally, increase the power of your signature with your voice:  sign up to speak in person on this issue to the decision makers on the Denton County Commission.

You'll find everything you need to make a strong presentation of up to 3 minutes here.
