Protect Young Girls' Online Safety: Hackers and Porn on Stardoll.com
The Issue
Stardoll.com is a dress up site/ online community where (mostly) young girls dress up dolls, talk about fashion with their friends and share their passion for fashion in a 'safe' way.
But over the last 2 weeks, the site has been under attack by a hacker(s). These hackers not only stole over 300k stardollars - see link at the bottom for reference - from users (stardollars which were purchased with real money from the users' parents) but also posted pornographic images onto the site's home page.
400 million young users were exposed to pornographic images over the weekend.
Young girls. Is that what you want for your child?
.
The hacker seems to be stealing their Stardoll log-in information, and changing the email to cherry.. @stardoll.com (the email does not get verified, but the password is changed and the hacker has access to the account). Unless users have an up-to-date email they are unable to retrieve their account by requesting the email to be changed back to the original. unless the account is changed back to the original email, users are unable to get a new password & have lost their account for good.
Over Saturday & Sunday, the hackings continued. More accounts were lost and Stardoll has been silent on the issue.
A few users have called Stardoll's office, only for the calls to be ignored or re-directed. Stardoll are still staying quiet about the situation on social media. Some hacked users still haven't managed to get their accounts back, many users have de-actived their accounts in order to protect themselves seeing as Stardoll won't.
Over 30 users have claimed to be hacked and many have taken screenshot with proof (see post linked at the bottom).
Sign this petition and link it to your posts on social media to get parents aware of what has been going on. 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 year olds have been exposed to pornographic images and had their parents' purchases stolen. Something needs to be done and up to this point, Stardoll AB (creators of stardoll.com - a 400 million member website) as ignored all messages.
