Ever since the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, states have imposed extreme abortion bans. Currently, abortion is still illegal in 13 states with most other states having restrictions. The prohibition of abortion does not and will never stop it from happening. 25 million unsafe abortions are performed annually. If we criminalize a necessary medical procedure, it will only become more dangerous. For example, in countries where abortion is illegal, more abortions are performed than in countries where it is protected. There is also an obvious class division. While wealthier citizens may be able to travel to receive treatment, that may not be an option for others. These new laws seem to be targeting lower income areas where unsafe abortion is already a common issue. 

If we were to reinstate a federal law protecting abortion, it could save millions of lives in the long run. The termination of a pregnancy can be vital to the mothers life and/or well being and we cannot take that right away. 

It is imperative to keep fighting for reproductive rights back. Cases like Amanda Eid and the 10-year old rape victim cannot keep happening. As a society, we need to take steps forwards towards a better future for ourselves and the generations to follow. In a world full of questions and movements to improve society, it is shocking to think that we have gone back to this point.
