The Issue

As a almost lifelong citizen of Weaverville and the eighth great-grandson of John and Elizabeth Weaver, the founders of this town, I am urging our community to stand together to preserve the unique charm that has been part of Weaverville's identity for generations. The plan to install public restrooms in our Town Square threatens not only the aesthetic appeal of our beloved community but also the legacy cherished by so many residents. Weaverville's Town Square is the heart of our town, a place where families gather, local businesses thrive, and visitors experience the beauty and history of our community. It is a symbol of our town's heritage and a reflection of the warmth and character that make Weaverville special. Installing public restrooms in this area could disrupt the picturesque setting, deterring both residents and tourists from enjoying the ambiance it currently offers. Furthermore, public restrooms may raise concerns about maintenance, safety, and hygiene, potentially leading to increased expenses for our town budget. Currently, we have other options for businesses and other community areas that could provide restroom access without compromising the town's central charm. We understand the need for public amenities, but we believe these can be implemented in locations that do not sacrifice the iconic appeal of Weaverville. Perhaps we can explore alternative sites in nearby town areas or work with existing businesses to facilitate restroom access during business hours. By signing this petition, you are supporting the preservation of Weaverville's historical and cultural essence. Together, let's urge the Town Council to reconsider this decision and explore feasible alternatives that align with the community's value and vision for the future. Please sign this petition and help us protect the charm and character of Weaverville for our future generations.
