The Issue

Women who provide unpaid care and experience late diagnosis of disability, such as AuDHD and menopause-related impairments, face systemic challenges in the UK. Many of these women are unable to gain employment due to structural barriers and therefore, are being financially penalized for their significant contributions to society. It is alarming that these vital efforts are not recognised in ways that ensure their financial security and social inclusion.

Unpaid carers contribute billions to the UK economy through their selfless dedication, yet they often face gaps in their National Insurance records, leading to a lack of pension entitlement. Additionally, many women experiencing late diagnoses of conditions like autism spectrum disorder (AuDHD) and menopause-related impairments are left without appropriate adjustments in workplaces or financial protections. These systemic oversights mean that a whole demographic is at risk of exclusion from crucial benefits and legal recognition.

Furthermore, this petition highlights the urgent need for reform to protect National Insurance records for unpaid carers, ensure fair access to benefits for late-diagnosed women, and provide legal recognition of cumulative disability detriment. These women should not suffer financial loss while supporting families, loved ones, and communities. The government must acknowledge and rectify policies that undermine the rights and dignity of these citizens.

By signing this petition, we call on UK policymakers to take immediate action to rectify these inequities. Together, we can demand reforms that uphold the well-being and rightful financial recognition of unpaid carers and late-diagnosed disabled women in the UK. Let's make society equitable for all who uphold it. Please sign and share your support for this crucial cause.

DISABILITY SYSTEM FAILURES: MOTHERS’ LIVED EXPERIENCE CALL-OUT (UK)

We’re collecting factual lived experiences from mothers and carers who have been fighting daily and getting no resolution.

This is not a vent thread. It’s a structured evidence call so we can identify repeatable failures across services and push for systemic change.

If you’ve been trapped in endless loops, ignored adjustments, bounced between teams, or harmed by process, please reply using the template below.

You can share as much or as little as you want.

As long as we are silent it continues we need lived experience documentation to show how we all live every day, real names, real experiences real stories.
